This morning I spent some time in and around Cottonwood Lake in the Sawatch Mountains,
a small, high altitude lake nestled in the Rocky Mountains. The aspens in the area are not
quite at their peak colors, but it was nevertheless very scenic and worthy of photographing.
Here is a view on Chaffee County Road 304 as I drove towards the lake.
The lighting wasn't quite cooperative, but the line of yellow aspens on each side of the
road was quite pretty to the naked eye. |

Two photos of Cottonwood Lake. |

A hillside with large patches of yellow and orange aspen foliage. |

Another pretty aspen grove! |
 |
I walked around the Cottonwood Lake Campground, which
is now closed for the season, and approached the campsite that
my friend Megan
camped at for a week during the summer. Megan, here is the view of the aspens
as one looks at the back of your former campsite! ;) |
 |
I am not sure if I appreciate the barren and leafless
tree in the foreground, but I knew I had to somehow capture those aspens reflecting brightly. |
 |
I climbed a short bit up a hillside to capture
this view of the lake. I was practically looking directly at the sun. |

Just a few miles back into the valley I live in,
I snapped this shot of Mt. Princeton
(alt. 14,198 feet at the summit). Note the patches of autumn colors on the mountain. |
